PTERIDACEAE

(Maidenhair fern Family)

Pellaea truncata Goodding

Spiny cliff-brake

( Fertile diploid)
The pinnules on the fertile fronds of this fern are apically mucronate and generally smaller and narrower than the other four representatives of the genus in New Mewico. This fern also produces sterile fronds with broadly elliptical pinnules without reflexed margins. P. truncata is, by far, the most common fern in the Florida Mountains of Luna County.
